The Bali Sixes to be held over Easter is looming as having far more importance for cricket in Indonesia than a bit of fun in the sun.
Officials from the Jakarta Cricket Association will meet with their local counterparts at the Sixes to discuss the next step in the formation of the Indonesian Cricket Association.
The ICC's East Asia-Pacific Development Officer, Mr. Andrew Eade, will fly to Bali for the Sixes (nice work if you can get it) to assist the parties and also get a first hand look at Indonesian cricket.
In other general news, a Jakarta team will compete in the Shanghai Sixes in June, while a team of expatriate Sri Lankans from London will play matches in Indonesia. This includes participation at the Bali Sixes.
Communication has also been established between the JCA and the Philippines Cricket Association.
Vishnu Saptari provides this account of play in the 1999-2000 JCA Synergy Cricket League so far:
"Season enters into it's last quarter with each team having only a handful of matches left.
ISCI CC is the runaway leader, having yet to lose a match and thus is assured of a semi-final spot no matter how poor the results of their remaining matches.
Four teams are in a very tight race for the remaining three slots, with Ceylon CC making a tremendous comeback after a disastrous start to the season.
Teams lying in sixth through to eighth still have a mathematical chance of slipping into the last four, so it will definitely come down to the wire on the last fixture day.
The Semi-Finals are scheduled for May 21st and the Grand Final on May 28th."
