The International Cricket Council (ICC) will appoint 15 umpires,
including one each from Bangladesh, Kenya and Scotland, to conduct
the matches of World Cup 1999 to be held in England from May.
Syed Ashraful Haque, general secretary of Bangladesh Cricket Board
(BCB), revealed this last night. Talking to The Daily Star, Ashraful,
who returned from London on Friday, said that a Bangladeshi umpire
will go to the World Cup along with two other umpires from Kenya and
Scotland. The three umpires from the ICC associate member-countries
will only be appointed as 'third umpires' in matches of the World Cup.
The 12 other umpires will be picked from the eight Test playing
countries and the West Indies.
