The final took place on Sunday 5th September at Northern C.C. between the
Ribblesdale League and the Cheshire County League on an extremely warm day
in front of a good crowd. Ribblesdale won the toss and elected to bat. With
130 on the board for the loss of 4 wickets and 12 overs remaining, a score
of 200 was anticipated but they lost their way and collapsed to 163 all out.
D.Gardner-Chan top scored with 62 and wicket keeper Makin claimed four
victims.
Cheshire County's reply got off to a nervous start and looked in
trouble at 73 for 4, but an excellent knock of 66 from Danny Leech kept them in the hunt and when he was fifth man out only fifteen runs were required for
victory. This was achieved without any further mishaps. Adjudicator David
Moss duly judged Danny Leech the Man of the Match. The trophy was presented
to Cheshire skipper Mark Leathley by Phil Edwards of the sponsors, Royal &
SunAlliance, who once again were thanked for their continued support.
This year has again seen a very high standard of cricket and
sportsmanship throughout the competition and the organisers are always on the look out for any leagues interested in joining the competition.
