Cricket in China has received various boosts this week. First there was the news that Malcolm Speed, the ICC's chief executive, is to head there to assess the potential of the country. Now China's women have some news of their own - they are to send a team to the Shanghai Sixes at the end of September, and they will play Scotland women.
The idea came about thanks to Scotland's coach, Omar Henry, who trained the Chinese players at last year's Sixes and suggested they may like to form a team. They duly did.
The chief executive of Cricket Scotland, Roddy Doyle, was delighted with the invitational fixture. "This is an amazing opportunity for our girls," he said, "and shows how determined they are to make their mark at international level."
