ECB chairman Giles Clarke had to be physically separated from the Independent on Sunday cricket correspondent Stephen Brenkley at a dinner during the Nottingham Test, according to the Daily Mail.
Brenkley, along with a few Test Match Special journalists, had been invited to dinner by Clarke. During the meal the conversation turned to Zimbabwe and the possibility that the UK government would refuse to allow them to tour England in 2009. At that point, the article stated, things grew increasingly heated until Clarke grabbed Brenkley by the collar. The pair had to be split up by Test Match Special administrator Shilpa Patel.
"It was a thoroughly pleasant evening with some robust conversation on a number of matters," Brenkley told the newspaper. "I know I have the ability to get people's pin. No apology was asked for or received and we parted company great friends."
