We can't go far without Chandimal and coach - Herath
Although coach Chandika Hathurusingha and regular captain Dinesh Chandimal are suspended for two Tests and four ODIs, they are still a vital part of Sri Lanka's performance, spinner Rangana Herath has said. Chandimala and Hathurusingha are serving a six-match suspension for breaching the spirit of cricket in June, over Sri Lanka's refusal to take the field in the second Test against West Indies.
"It's true that we don't have our captain or coach for the game, but if you see during nets, both Hathu and Chandi were there, and preparation was good," Herath said. "Without them we can't go very far. Only during the game are they not there. They are behind us."
Under the suspension rules, Chandimal is allowed to be in the dressing room during the games, but is not allowed to enter the playing area. Hathurusingha, meanwhile, can coach as per normal in between matches, but cannot be in the dressing room on game days, though he is allowed to watch the match from elsewhere in the stadium.
