Former West Indian opening batsman Gordon Greenidge has taken up
a fresh assignment as the national cricket coach of the Bangladesh cricket team, informed sources said in Dhaka.
Greenidge`s initial task is to prepare the Bangladesh team for
the Asia Cup tournament to be held in Sri Lanka next year.
Bangladesh are down to play India, Pakistan and the World champions Sri Lanka in the preliminary round of the 1997 Asia Cup
tournament to be played in Colombo mid next year.
Bangladesh is one of the top International Cricket Conference associate members and has drafted a long term plan to gain the Test
status before the year 2000. However, Bangladesh is a full member
of the Asian Cricket Council, which includes ICC members Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India, and is a regular participant of the Asia
Cup tournament.
