Griquas defeated WP by 7 wickets in Kimberley today. Griquas won the toss in cloudy and overcast conditions and put WP into bat. The wicket was still soft from heavy rain earlier in the week. Both Allan Dawson (`flu) and Paul Adams (late arrival) were not considered for selection.
It was clear from the start that WP batsmen were woefully short of outdoor match practice. The batters struggled to find form with the exception of Neil Johnson (47), Herschelle Gibbs (23) and Andrew Puttick (44 no) and Province eventually struggled to 173/7 off their allotted 45 overs.
The bowlers also failed to fire spraying the ball on both sides of the wicket and in the process conceding 25 runs in wides. WP also fielded an inexperienced attack with Antonio Mullins, Brian Joffe, Renier Munnik and Albert Nkomo getting an extended bowl. Griquas knocked off the runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Willie Dry top scored with 69.
WP play Griquas in another limited over match at the same venue on Friday. Allan Dawson is unlikely to play but Paul Adams will be available for selection.
