Durham 286 (Collingwood 129) and 32 for 3 beat Worcestershire 171 and 146 (Harmison 5-61) by 7 wickets
Scorecard
Steve Harmison grabbed Durham's first hat trick in first-class cricket as they stormed to a two-day victory against Worcestershire to maintain their terrific start to the season with a seven-wicket, two-day victory. Harmison surged through the tail - dismissing James Pipe, Matt Mason and David Wigley in three balls - as he claimed his first five-wicket haul for Durham in two years. Everything happened in a rush on a dramatic day at the Riverside, starting with Paul Collingwood's century as Durham worked their way to a first-innings lead of 115. Collingwood was eventually dismissed by Gareth Batty after striking 16 fours and two sixes in his 238-ball innings. The Durham tail folded quickly and was followed by the Worcestershire top-order as Liam Plunkett continued his wicket-taking spree with the top-three. Chaminda Vaas blazed his way to 42 from 32 balls but Harmison soon took centre stage.
Leicestershire 69 for 0 trail Nottinghamshire 433 for 6 (Sales 113, White 95) by 364 runs
Scorecard
David Sales piled more misery on the beleaguered Leicestershire attack with a fine century and Rob White gave a glimpse of Northant's young English talent, falling just short of a hundred. Sales and White added 194 for the fourth wicket following the loss of both openers in the fifties as Martin Love and Bilal Shafayat failed to build on solid starts. Even when Phil DeFreitas, the pick of the attack, struck three times, Gerard Brophy shepherded Northants passed 400 and allowed Sales to declare. Leicestershire, at last, showed some backbone to their batting, managing to see out the day without losing a wicket - a notable performance after their double capitulation against Durham last week.
Yorkshire 401 for 7 (Harvey 161*, Wood 95) v Somerset
Scorecard
Ian Harvey crashed his way to a career-best unbeaten 161 as Yorkshire made up for lost time after the opening day washout at Headingley. Harvey, who has just lost his Cricket Australia contract, led a recovery after a middle-order slump in which Yorkshire lost four for 59. He added an unbeaten 174 with Tim Bresnan as Yorkshire notched up a full hand of batting points. Bresnan played a very mature innings to support Harvey, who blazed 25 fours in his explosive display. Matthew Wood continued his good start to the season, falling just five runs short of a century. Nixon McLean picked up three wickets, including Craig White, caught at slip for a duck by Marcus Trescothick, but was expensive, conceding more than five an over.
