Tendulkar to captain Asian XI
Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar will lead an Asian XI which is to play the Rest of the World XI in a one day match at the Oval in London on July 29. The match has been organized to raising funds for renovation of the Oval cricket ground.
The person behind this invitation match has been the former British Prime Minister and the present President of the Surrey CCC John Major. Besides Tendulkar, India's Mohd Azharuddin, Anil Kumble, Ajay Jadeja, Javgal Srinath and Robin Singh are to play in the match. Indian Coach Kapil Dev has been named the manager of the team. The team also includes Wasim Akram, Saeed Anwar, Shoaib Akhtar, Moin Khan and Saqlain Mushtaq.
The Rest of the World team is to be captained by England's Alec Stewart and includes Shane Warne, Nasser Hussain, Graham Thorpe, Chris Cairns and Nathan Astle.
PCA executive meeting to discuss match fixing, fixtures
The Executive committee of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) will discuss the recent allegations of betting and match-fixing apart from other matters. The meeting will be held on May 14 at the PCA cricket stadium in Mohali.
Dhruv Pandove Cricket Stadium will host the meeting of the Tournament and Fixture committee of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) on May 13 and 14. MP Pandove, secretary of the PCA said the meeting will discuss the domestic cricket programme for the year 2000-1.
Pandove said the committee will decide the dates of various tournaments scheduled for the season like - summer league tournament; Katoch Shield, Dhruv Pandove Trophy and M.L. Markan Trophy as also the JP Attray tournament. The meeting will also allot dates for the interdistrict tournaments, inter-school tournament, the inter-university tournaments and the under-22 inter-state invitational tournament.
