Jamaica: Excelsior off to winning start
The Jamaica Gleaner
Excelsior High made a winning start to their Sunlight Cup campaign
with a convincing seven-wicket victory over Meadowbrook High at Bumper
Hall yesterday.
The other game scheduled between Tivoli Gardens Comprehensive and
Ardenne High did not take place due to the teachers' strike.
Scores in yesterday's match: Meadowbrook 61; Excelsior 62 for three.
Sent in to bat, the pace of Gavin Britton (5-16 from 11.1 overs) and
captain Everton Nelson (4-23 off 15 overs) proved lethal to
Meadowbrook as only captain Marlon Cottrell with a top score of 18
and Ricardo Dryden with 15 offered any form of resistance as
Meadowbrook were bundled out cheaply off 34.1 overs.
Excelsior made short work of overtaking Meadowbrook's meagre 61,
reaching the target in just 19 overs.
Wayne Gayle, younger brother of Christopher Gayle, top scored with an
unbeaten 22 while other useful contributions for the green and
yellows came from Taskan Reynolds with 12 not out and opener Dwight
Satchell who made 11.
Cottrell was the most successful bowler for Meadowbrook with 2-24
from nine overs, with Aayon Cruickshank claimed 1-27 from eight
overs.
Meanwhile, the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) has
altered the fixtures due to withdrawal from the competition of Mona
High, Papine Comprehensive and Jose Marti Technical.

Group C and the following matches are therefore cancelled: January 21

Comprehensive, February 6 - Holy Trinity vs Dunoon, February 11 -
Dunoon vs St. Catherine High, February 27 - Calabar vs Dunoon, March
4 - Dunoon vs St. Jago.
The new fixtures: January 29 - Dunoon vs Jamaica College, February 6
- Norman Manley vs Dunoon, February 11 - Dunoon vs Kingston College,
