Jamaica: Jamaica College off to flying Cup start
The Jamaica Gleaner
Jamaica College opened their Sunlight Cup campaign and the season with
a commanding nine-wicket victory over Norman Manley Comprehensive at
Maxfield Park yesterday.
The game between defending champions Kingston College and Jose Marti
was not played as the latter made a late withdrawal from the
competition.
Scores: Norman Manley Comprehensive 108 from 47.4 overs; Jamaica
College 111 for one.
Sent in to bat on a good pitch, openers Rick Davis and Sergio Hardy
gave Norman Manley a good start as they posted a solid 63 before
Hardy sustained a foot injury and was forced to retire hurt on 24.
Greg Larrington joined Davis but after posting only four runs he was
bowled by Jermaine McFarlane and his departure triggered a collapse
as nine wickets fell for 39.
Hardy returned to the crease with the score at 81 for seven and added
some respectability to the score with 32 runs which included five
boundaries.
Davis top scored with 33 .
Jamaica College captain Garnett Murray, bowling his gentle medium
pacers, was the main destroyer taking five for 23.
JC in reply romped to victory from just 16 overs after openers
Ricardo McKenzie, with 33 and Andrew Hutchinson gave them a good
start posting an even 50 before McKenzie got greedy and was caught at
mid-on by Oneil Huntley off Howard Jackson. Murray joined Hutchinson
and made sure his team lost no further wickets as they posted an
unbroken second-wicket partnership of 61 runs.
Murray top scored with 42 off just 27 balls and including eight
boundaries while Hutchinson was left on 22 from 28 balls.
In today's games (home teams named first): Tivoli Gardens
Comprehensive vs Ardenne High, Meadowbrook High vs Excelsior High.
