A Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) board member who indicated
last week he would not be seeking re-election at the forthcoming
annual general meeting has had a change of heart.
Wendell Kellman, who was elected to the board last year for the
first time, said yesterday that his latest decision was
influenced by several discussions.
"Over the past few days, I have been approached by many friends,
colleagues, association members and cricket fans who have
suggested that I should review my decision," he said.
"In the interest of service to Barbados cricket and because of
my undying love for the sport, I have given the matter serious
consideration."
A former Chief Personnel Officer in the Civil Service, Kellman
said he believed he still had a contribution to make to local
cricket.
"I believe too in the values of teamwork, sharing a common
vision, dedication, hard work, honesty, integrity, people
running together for a common objective and results," he said.
Kellman added that after the recent discussions he was convinced
there were better days ahead for Barbados' cricket.
"I do not believe that I should leave undone work that requires
critical input at this time," said the chairman of the BCA's
sub-committee responsible for the Barbados Fire and Commercial
Shield and Cup limited-overs competitions.
"I am fully committed to giving of my best in the development of
Barbados' cricket."
His earlier decision to make himself unavailable for a place on
the board was first carried on Friday in a BCA notice informing
members of the annual general meeting scheduled for July 29 at
the Sherbourne Conference Centre.
Kellman said when he joined the board, it was his intention to
render the type of service he gave to the Barbados Public
Service for 41 years.
Such services included assignments in the diplomatic and
consular service overseas and other service organisations at
national and regional level.
