Matthew Maynard is set to be the new assistant coach to the England one-day squad, although he will continue to play for Glamorgan for at least one more season.
Maynard, 38, is expected to travel to South Africa and Zimbabwe with England for this winter's two one-day series after the Champions Trophy. He has not been officially handed the role yet, although he was due to meet up with the England players today.
As assistant to the England coach Duncan Fletcher, Maynard would reignite a partnership which, in 1997, spearheaded Glamorgan's successful County Championship campaign. "He has the qualifications, experience and energy for the role," Fletcher told the BBC. "I'm sure he will be an asset to the one-day side."
Maynard could find himself working alongside his county colleague Alex Wharf, a bowler who has been drafted into the Champions Trophy squad and enjoyed success on his one-day debut against India in the first match of the NatWest Challenge.
Glamorgan have granted Maynard a testimonial season in 2005, after he broke the county's record for first-class centuries this summer.
