The Belize national cricket team visited Mexico Cuty for its annual matches against the MCCC Mariachis earlier this month. MCCC official, Keith Foster, provides the details:
Mexico City Cricket club recently hosted the Belizean National Cricket team for a weekend of cricket and other delights.
The intention was to play two games, one on Saturday and the main game on the Sunday.
The first game on Saturday was a limited overs game with Mexico fielding its 2nd XI.
Mexico batted first on a very green and grassy wicket.
It was soon in trouble losing its first four wickets cheaply, and despite a spirited innings of 31 by Max Cawdron, was dismissed for 98 runs.
Seven bowlers shared the wickets with J.Anthony taking three.
Belize also struggled with the wicket which was helping the bowlers.
After losing five wickets cheaply and giving some hope to the Mexican side, a partnership between D.Rhaburn (21 n.o.) and E.Robinson (27 n.o.) saw Belize safely home.
The Sunday game (unlimited overs) was a different story.
With Mexico bringing out its big guns, Belize was in trouble immediately.
Tushar Gupta (India) (four wickets) and Scott Kemsley (Aust.) (three) ripped through the Belizean batsmen who were skittled out for a lowly total of 38 - the lowest score ever in the matches which have been played between the two teams. Only one batsman, E.Banner, reached double figures.
Mexico had no trouble in collecting the necessary runs and did so with eight wickets in hand. Andy Steel (UK) and Nigel Bryans (Arg.) scored the necessary runs.
Mexico City Cricket club is again playing host on the weekend of 10th March when it will be hosting a team compiled of players representing the Houston league, mainly from the Memorial Cricket Club. The weekend also coincides with MCCC Spring Dinner Dance and trophy presentation.
