Former Australian Test captain and present selector, Allan Border, will accompany the ICC's East Asia-Pacific Development Officer, Mr. Andrew Eade, on his visit to the Far East next month.

Border will play a promotional role in the trip, which will take in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Japan and South Korea.

Border filled a similar capacity when Mr. Eade visited Papua-New Guinea recently.

Officials from national associations in his region have repeatly volunteered praise relating to Mr. Eade's performance to 'Beyond The Test World', citing his concern towards impediemts in that country and personal conduct.

While on PNG, Adelaide Oval's acclaimed curator, Les Burdett, will visit Port Moresby in the next fortnight as part of an ongoing role to oversee the development of the Amini Park facility.

Mr. Burdett will inspect progress on the ground, which Cricket Board of Control officials see as pivotal to PNG cricket's development.

He will be accompanied by a curator from Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia, which experiences the tropical climactic conditions prevalent in Port Moresby.

Mr. Burdett will make return visits, which PNGCBC officials hope will ensure Amini Park is ready for a potential visit by the West Indies, which is touring Australia during 2000/2001. PNGCBC officials believe they have a promise that if the Amini Park facility is ready, the West Indies visit is assured.

Meanwhile, the PNGCBC is expected to name its national coach in the next couple of weeks.

It is likely he will be from Australia.

The PNGCBC set a condition on all applicants that the position commence six months prior to the 2001 ICC Trophy.

Applicants have been told they will work with the national squad as well as fulfilling development capacities.

'Beyond The Test World' has heard a strange array of possibilities for next year's ICC Trophy in Toronto, Canada. These include:

The number of teams will be cut back due to financial concerns
Any countries elected to Associate membership in June will not be permitted to compete in Toronto
The regional qualification process expected to be implemented for 2007 West Indies will be used for next year, meaning the potentiality of a reduced ICC Trophy

At Easter, Brazil will be receiving Chile to play three one-day games.

Out of Taiwan comes unconfirmed news of an expatriate tournament played mainly by Indians living in the city of Taipei.

Matches are reportedly played to a 25-30 over duration, usually 11-a-side. There are apparently a group of around 50 people who every 3-4 months break into teams to play a tournament of sorts.
