Voting in the Observer-Bata Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year and Most Popular Outstation Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year has got off to a slow start, but from inquiries that have been made by followers of school cricket, indications are that the voting will pick up in the coming weeks.
Thomian Upeka Fernando and Raddoluwa MV's Dushantha Ranatunga are the first week's leaders in the Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer and Most Popular Outstation Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year respectively. Fernando has 27 votes, three more than Royalist skipper Thusan Amerasuriya who has 24, while another Thomian Gihan Fernando is third with 23 votes.
In the Outstation Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year, Dushantha Ranatunga leads with 18 votes, with I. Muthalib of Maris Stella second with 12 votes and D. M. Sampath third with 10 votes.
