Update on progress by Interim Committee

A press conference of Sri Lanka Cricket was held on Friday 05th May 2006, at SLC Auditorium in the presence of Chairman - Mr. Jayantha Dharmadasa, Secretary - Mr. Adel Hashim and the Interim Committee Members - Mr. Prakash Schaffter and Mr. K. Mathiwanan.

1).Marketing Manager :- Mr. Nalaka Weeraman former Executive Director - Marketing of Richard Peiris Tyre Co Limited has been appointed as the Marketing Manager of SLC with effect from 03rd May 2006.

2).2011 World Cup :- Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh will host the World Cup 2011.

3).2012 ICC Champions Trophy - This tournament will be held in Sri Lanka and all matches will be played in Sri Lanka. SLC was of the view that the various Media Institutions and SLC should make maximum advantage of this event to promote Sri Lanka and its tourism potential etc.

4).New Selection Committee :- The new Selection Committee appointed with effect from 01st May 2006 is as follows:-

Mr. Don Arunasiri
Mr. Shabeer Asgaraly
Mr. Amal Silva

5).Financial Statement :- The Financial Statement of SLC as at 31st December 2005 will be released to the media and published in leading newspapers in English and Sinhala on Tuesday 09th May 2006.

6).Infrastructure Development :- The following infrastructure Development handled by SLC was highlighted.

a).Improvement of drainage system of various stadiums has been attended to.
b).A considerable amount of infrastructure development has been done at the R. Premadasa Stadium..
c).Construction work is being continuously done at present at Welagedera Stadium, Kurunegala and is considered as an on-going project..
d).Colombo University Cricket Grounds is under consideration as a New Venue for International Cricket..
e).A proposal for the laying of Astro-Turf Pitches covering Major Cricket pitches in the country is being considered, due to cost effectiveness of maintenance etc.
