Kent347 and 308 for 6 lead Warwickshire 309 (Knight 100, Khan 6-73) by 346 runs
Scorecard
Warwickshire will face a large last-day target after Martin van Jaarsveld's second century of the match put Kent into the driving seat. van Jaarsveld, who has joined Kent under the Kolpak ruling, helped Kent extend their first-innings advantage of 38, reaching his century from 175 balls. He added 155 for the second wicket with David Fulton (75) and Matthew Walker pushed the score along towards the end of play with an unbeaten 54. The home side were grateful to Amjad Khan for securing their first-innings lead, as the seamer ran through the Warwickshire tail during the morning session. He dispatched Ashley Giles before the England spinner added to his overnight score. Giles was again the main threat in the Warwickshire attack, working his way through xx overs was Nick Knight tried to keep a lid on the scoring rate.
Middlesex 345 (Joyce 192) and 8 for 0 need 406 more runs to beat Nottinghamshire 546 and 212 for 5 dec (Bicknell 111)
Scorecard
It was a tale of left-handers at Lord's on the third day - two making hundreds and one completing a match-to-forget with the bat. Ed Joyce extended his overnight 68 into a career-best 192 despite being left with the tail. He coaxed 133 runs from the last two wickets thanks to stout support from Alan Richardson and Nantie Hayward. His effort, though, was not enough the save the follow-on, but the extra time the Nottinghamshire attack spent in the field persuaded Stephen Fleming to give his attack a rest. Fleming will have wished he hadn't when Hayward bowled him for one, following his first innings duck, to complete an uncomfortable Nottinghamshire debut. However, a workmanlike hundred from Darren Bicknell ensured Nottinghamshire extended their lead and had enough time to put Middlesex back in. A target of 414 is unlikely to be attempted and they face a final-day battle to secure a draw.
Hampshire 280 and 89 for 3 need 196 more runs to beat Sussex 252 and 312 (Ward 86, Adams 79*, Warne 4-81)
Scorecard
Hampshire will have their work cut out on the final day if they are to secure their second Championship win of the season. Two late wickets put the skids under their chase of 285 after Simon Katich and James Adams had progressed to 74 for 1. Mushtaq Ahmed claimed the big scalp of Katich while James Kirtley continued his impressive match by snapping up Adams. At one stage of the Sussex second innings it seemed Hampshire would be chasing a significantly smaller target. Billy Taylor bowled Murray Goodwin who left a straight one and Katich had Ian Ward caught behind short of a century. Shane Warne then worked his way through the middle-order but Chris Adams, who past 7000 first-class runs, found an important ally in Mushtaq, who smashed 36 from 39 balls in a vital stand of 56. Further support came from Kirtley before Warne wrapped up the tail but Mushtaq may be the happier legspinner when the game is over.
