The nominees for the 2016 Test XI have been put in the following categories: openers, middle order, wicketkeeper and allrounders/bowlers. In each of these categories, the following nine players would make it to a Readers' 2016 Test XI based on voting: Openers (top 2), Middle order (top 2), Wicketkeeper (top 1), Allrounders/Bowlers (top 5). The 11th spot in the 2016 Test XI would go to the player with the highest votes outside the above picks in any of the categories.
