still bowls the short ball, and Allen rides the bounce of this delivery outside off, before chopping to point and completing the run to seal victory
Patriots vs Falcons, 11th Match at Basseterre, CPL, Sep 08 2024 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Falcons won by 2 wickets (with 2 balls remaining)
So back-to-back wins for Falcons takes them up to No. 3 on the points table, even as Patriots sit right at the bottom of the table after five losses in a row. With this, we wrap up our coverage of CPL this weekend, with the action continuing only on Tuesday night. Until then, it is goodbye!
Chris Green: "We like winning in the last over! I would like to credit this group... we have been having a lot of fun. You look at our last game, when Springer and Primus got us over the line. Today, we saw how the wicket played was very conducive to spin. Fabian Allen is a great player - he wants to stand up with bat and ball in big moments. Hasaranga is a world-class player! On a wicket like that, he is tough to get through."
Andre Fletcher: "It was a difficult wicket to start with. They pegged us back early. But the way Hasaranga and Louis fought back, I couldn't have asked for anything better. Once you control the powerplay, you can peg them back... I'm still looking for answers! I just said to Mikyle Louis to be confident: just go out there and feel free... he did that, and showed he can play in any situation. I must say thanks [to the crowd]. We disappointed them. I would like to apologise for not giving them a win on home soil."
Imad Wasim is the Player of the Match: "These wickets suit me. But the thing is to stay in. My number (batting position) is really good. It was a great toss to win... last five overs, you need to bowl how the wicket is demanding. I think 153 was a good total. The clarification of the role is very important. The good thing about T20 is stick to your basics."
Time for the presentations
1.43pm A chase of three parts here. During the first one, King and Greaves bashed 55 off 26 balls in the opening partnership. That is when came a twist, as Hasaranga took four wickets and reduced Patriots to 110 for 7 to start the 16th over. He finished with 4 for 16 in four overs - 16 of those 24 balls were dots - but it was in the 16th over itself that Primus counter-swept and began the fightback. Eventually, though, Falcons required Allen to hack a four and a six in the final over to complete the win. Hang around for the presentations.
A chat between Fletcher and Drakes...
another short ball... and four! Between the fine leg and deep midwicket fielders again, as Drakes bowls short again, before Allen swat-pulls in the gap to beat the deep-midwicket fielder running and diving to his right
swung away over deep square leg! This just crosses the boundary! Short in length on middle and leg from Drakes, and Allen, standing deep in the crease, pulls freely for six
he starts with a dot. Bowls a slower ball on a short of a length on middle and off, and the ball moves away, with Allen's attempted pull in vain
Drakes will bowl the final over. Falcons need 11, with Allen on strike.
full-length delivery just outside off, and driven to deep point with his bottom hand off
a length ball swinging into off, and pushed back to the bowler
backs away, and punches this short-of-a-length ball outside leg to deep point
Saifi: "Ideally, Amir should win this game for his team to become PotM" --- In all probability, Falcons will require him with the bat too
a yorker-length ball swinging into middle, and clipped to fine leg
Allen at No. 10
taken at backward point! The ball was up in the air for ages, before settling into the sub fielder Smith's hands. Nortje bowled on a fullish length in the channel, with his skiddy pace helping the ball rush on to Primus. The latter went lofting, but ended up mistiming it and getting it off the outside half of the bat
short of a length on the stumps, and whipped wide of long-on. They look for a second, but are denied
slower ball on a short of a length on off. Punched to extra cover
change of pace again, but this is a length ball on the stumps. Primus goes heaving across the line, but gets an inside edge, with the ball rolling to the off side
slower ball, and on a fullish length just outside off. Tapped close to the pitch on the off side, as they set off for a single
short of a length on middle and off, and slashed towards point
slower ball, and a short ball outside off. Clipped to fine leg
on a good length around off, and Primus almost chops it on, as he dabs it and gets a bottom edge towards the keeper
Drakes into the attack
full ball on his pads, and clipped between the keeper and short fine leg! In fact, it is a low full toss, as Wasim only has to turn it around and send it away rolling
full toss on off, and driven hard to mid-off to keep ticking
Now Nortje fixes his boot...
ohhh, change if pace on a short of a length on the stumps. He went pulling, but was hit high on his stomach. The ball trickled to the leg side, and they pinched a leg bye
Albert K: "Go ABF, go!"
fullish length, and angling across to finish wide of off. Left alone, and wide called
Over 20 • ABF 154/8
