MI Emirates vs Warriorz, 28th Match at Abu Dhabi, ILT20, Feb 02 2025 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Warriorz won by 8 wickets (with 16 balls remaining)
That is all of our action for today. Thank you for tuning in, and I hope you enjoyed it. Don't forget to join Srinidhi for the second match of the doubleheader day. Goodbye!
Player of the Match Tom Kohler-Cadmore: "We've been here three years and haven't got to finals. So we knew kind of the goal today was obviously to win and get to the finals. Tim winning the toss is obviously a massive help over here and for the boys to kind of finish off like we did, is very relieving. I do try to (dominate the bowlers). It's just kind of trying to put the pressure back. Obviously, sometimes I can get the better of me, but if I've got good intent, I normally seem to get a little bit of luck as well. Growing up my coach has always told me to try and hit the sight screen. So that's kind of my goal but I've got a bit of a bottom hand that kind of drags it a little bit sometimes, but now, it's just trying to keep it as simple as possible middle of the ball and hopefully it carries. Jono (Charles) again, we got off to a great start, and then J. Roy came in and was playing beautifully until I ran him out which I've already apologized for. (He's all right, is he?) Maybe no (Laughter). So yeah, and then Wade kind of came in and just took all the pressure off again. We're able to build a partnership quite quickly and kind of towards the end, kind of got going and finished nice and quick. We've had a great group this year. The boys have been kind of even when we were struggling those couple like heavy losses versus the Vipers, the boys were still together. We've got a great atmosphere in the camp and hopefully kind of now we've qualified we can go all the way."
Sharjah Warriorz Captain Tim Southee: "(Called Captain Fantastic) I wouldn't go that far. But yeah, I think probably a week ago we were scraping around. I think our last three or four performances have been probably where we as a side should operate it. It's been brilliant. It's always a challenge when you come in, you've only got a three or four-week-long tournament to try and gel and have players come and go. But that's part of, I guess the beauty of this tournament. But yeah we seem to be coming right into the tournament. Yeah, he's right now (Roy). He's all right. He's taken a while to cool down but he's right now. I think Wadey came in off a flight yesterday and showed his class along with TKC has been brilliant throughout the tournament. I think the beliefs have always been there. The squad, it's been a brilliant squad. It's a great environment we've got here. And yeah, I think we're a little bit off at the start of the tournament, but, we've lived around a little bit, a little bit tight, but we've just stuck in there."
MI Emirates Captain Nicholas Pooran: "We know we were 10 runs short. We were 10-15 runs short I reckon. And we allowed them as a bowling group to get back into the game too often. It was a really good track and you'll always pay the price in the end. They played well and batted really well. Obviously, our fielders didn't help us. If you have to win this game today, we have to field really well and obviously, we jump up three catches there, a couple misfelds as well. They bowled really nicely on the wicket as well. And we didn't put enough pressure on these guys and they obviously capitalize on that. Yeah, obviously, we are really happy that we qualified. We had a chance to go top two today. Obviously, we still have a chance as well. But again, as a matter, of the way we played this game, I don't think we really turned up today, to be honest, with ourselves. And that's maybe a little below our standards and the last couple of games, we played really, really nice and to come and put them up performance like this again, and it's unacceptable."
The Warriorz's first win versus the Emirates in ILT20 history, and what a day to celebrate! It was a do-or-die match, and they needed to win today to qualify for the playoffs. This is the first time the Warriorz have advanced to the ILT20 playoffs. The Warriorz had a comfortable start to their innings, forming partnerships. Even though they lost Charles and Roy in the first nine overs, it did not cause any problems later on. MI Emirates were quite terrible with the ball and fielding, losing a couple catches and making misfields. MI Emirates' bowling and fielding were poor, with a few dropped catches and misfields.
