wow, the shot which Pretorius wanted to execute off the previous ball is done by Arachchige in this one! He got across the stumps early, and successfully scooped this slower ball angling across and finishing a bit wide of off after landing on a length. The ball didn't quite seemed timed entirely well, but it still ballooned over the short-fine leg fielder's head for a four
Jaffna vs Galle, 2nd Match at Kandy, LPL, Jul 02 2024 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Galle Marvels start off the tournament with a win this evening, but the action from the LPL today isn't done yet. Join us for the Kandy vs Colombo game in about an hour. Until then, goodbye from this one! Take care!
Niroshan Dickwella, Galle Marvels captain: "Hales and I were just talking that we get through the powerplay. It was a tricky wicket - on the slower side. It was a good toss to lose. It was a used wicket, and we didn't know what the wicket would do. I wanted to take down the legspinner, but I got out. We dragged the game to the last over."
Charith Asalanka, Jaffna Kings captain: "I think we had enough runs on the board. When we were bowling, we gave them more pace - we could have bowled more slower balls. Dhananjaya and Fabian bowled fantastically. Credit goes to Niroshan and Hales."
Alex Hales is the Player of the Match: "Different to back in the UK. Little bit slower... Dickwella definitely made my job a lot easier. I was trying to get going in the powerplay, but it didn't quite happen."
Time for the presentations
6.22pm A thrilling finish where Galle's No. 7, facing just his second ball on a slow pitch, scooped the ball for four to get his side over the line. The momentum kept swinging this way and that for much of the second half of the chase, after Dickwella fired 47 off 27 balls to give Galle the perfect start. But Jaffna hit back through Allen, who struck twice - including getting Hales for 65 - even as Liyanage's cameo of 25 from 13 balls, and Arachchige's final-ball scoop, took Galle to victory.
Three needed off one ball...
ohh, just a single! That means Pretorius will be off strike, with Galle needing three off the final ball. Pretorius went to scoop this full-length ball angling into the stumps, but ended up toe-ending it to short fine leg's left
Pretorius on strike, with four more needed...
change of pace again, and on a length just outside off after angling across. Clipped to deep midwicket
Arachchige
slashed to point! Ohh, a late twist in the dying stages of the game. Asitha bowled a slower ball on the shorter side of a length, and got it to climb on top of off. Liyanage went hacking, but was beaten by the extra bounce, as he ended up finding the man at point
runs away between point and short third! I think it was intentional even as it came off the outside half of the bat, as Liyanage opened the face of the bat at this low full toss angling into off
ohh, dot ball to start! Almost a yorker-length ball just outside off, as Liyanage skips down to try and slash, but is beaten
Just nine required in the final over
swung away over fine leg! A slower ball on a short of a length on off, as Pretorius swivels to pull hard and just clear the boundary for a crucial six
wow, superb work by Madushan at short third! He dives to his right to keep this to a single, and save a certain four. Liyanage dabbed at this length ball angling into leg really late, almost giving the impression that he was bowled
ahh, slower ball! Liyanage is beaten in looking to slash at this length ball just outside off after making room, as he played with a flat bat
now on the bounce to fine leg! Short of a length on middle and off, as he swivels to pull it off the higher side of the bat
on the bounce to long-off, as he backs away to loft this fullish ball angling into a stump-to-stump line
angles this in, and bowls on a shortish length outside leg. Liyanage made room to try and clip, but missed, and hence it was called wide
on a length, and slightly wide of off. Slashed to long-off
Behrendorff from around the stumps
Michael: "Anwar with the jinx" --- Could be too early yet!
much fuller ball shaping in to finish just outside leg. Clipped aerially to deep square leg, with Rossouw giving the chase to his right from deep midwicket
ramped over the keeper! This is good awareness from Liyanage, who must have noticed both deep third and fine leg inside the circle. Asitha bowled a slower-ball bouncer rising on top of middle and leg, as Liyanage waited before lofting it very late
six over long-on! He stands after a bit of room, and bullies this length ball angling into leg with his front leg out of the way. Another big six in this over
very full, and angling in to hit his front pad outside leg, as he looked to flick. The ball rolls away towards square leg
Pretorius
taken at backward point! The fielder went low to his right, and grabbed a crucial catch as he fell forward. Asitha bowled a full toss this time, angling the ball across and getting it to finish on off. Rajapaksa opened the face of the bat looking to slice it away, but ended up getting it off the outside half of the bat to fall to a full toss
flung away over deep midwicket! Asitha bowls on the fuller side of a length on middle and off, and Rajapaksa swings for a huge six with his front leg out of the way
Asitha back
another full toss, and this goes for a one-bounce over square leg! He got his front leg out of the way, and whip-slogged it off knee height to keep Galle afloat in the chase
