treads on his stumps! Wheal closes out with a fourth, Klaassen paddling away to the leg side but breaking his own wicket in the process. London Spirit win by six runs, their first success in the Hundred!
Spirit vs Originals, 24th Match at Manchester, Men's Hundred, Aug 10 2021 - Match Result
9.15pm: At the sixth time of asking, London Spirit have chalked up a W. Brad Wheal headlined the defence with 4 for 17, as Colin Ackermann's half-century went in vain - and defeat for Manchester Originals puts a dent in their knockout qualification hopes, too
Brad Wheal is Hero of the Match: "Amazing, we had a great atmosphere here, good to get over the line been a tough tournament so far. [Crowd] It was good fun. That's what we live for, the environment we love bowling in. Cutters were gripping, the odd one skidding on. Spinners did well, Mase bowled well, so a good game for us all round. [Warne as coach] Amazing, little bits of knowledge he drops in are just incredible, you just pinch yourself sometimes."
Right, well that was a close-run thing, but a second win of the day for the visitors from London. Originals' spin wasn't quite the success we thought it would be at EOT... Anyway, we're done for another night in the Hundred. Back for more tomorrow. Cheerio!
Fred Klaassen is out to the middle, 7 still needed, 6 for a tie. Wheal just has to bowl a legitimate ball here
flung full and wide, 82mph and Hartley slashes it down to third... he has to try and get back for a second, but it's a good throw from Cullen and Hartley is short! And by keeping them to one, the target remains out of range!
angled across the left-hander, Hartley throws the bat but fails to connect!
Out comes Tom Hartley, the home crowd sitting uncomfortably now
timbaaaaaah! Wheal flattens off stump! Spirit are closing in... Excellent from Wheal, just goes full and straight and Harrison completely misses with a heave across the line
pitched up as Ferguson makes room, swipes one down to long-on
Out comes Lockie Ferguson at No. 8, Originals need 9 from 5. Wheal to finish this
wide yorker and Brathwaite picks out deep cover! Deep in the crease but it wasn't in the arc, skewed off the outer half of the bat! Cullen holds his nerve, as does Cracknell coming in off the rope. Is that the game for Spirit?
into the pitch, shovelled away in the air but wide of mid-on
Harrison on strike, 10 needed off 7
pitched up and drilled down the ground, can't get the elevation, just one to long-on this time
short and mullered over long-on! Targets Cullen again, steps away and sends it soaring into the sight screen!
fired in full as Brathwaite makes room, squirts it between his legs and they don't run
Cullen for his final set
Great comeback from Wheal after being put into the stands... Last ten, 17 needed. Brathwaite needs find his Kolkata vibe
fires in a leg-stump yorker, Harrison can only chop it back to the bowler
Still some work to do for Originals. Calvin Harrison out for a bat
skies this one and it drops safely into the hands of deep midwicket! Ackermann was looking to break the back of the requirement with another maximum, but Wheal took some pace off and he got under the shot. Went very high but didn't have the length
attempted yorker, 82mph and dug out leg side, somehow gets it into a gap and they hustle two more
goodnight Vienna! Hammered into the stands! Ackermann connects with the sweetest of leg-side mows and raises his fifty with a six over midwicket
fullish length, punched into the covers, Ackermann sends his partner back
Brad Wheal, 25 needed from 15
mishit down the ground, but Nabi can't get there! Screams of "catch!" from Crane, but seems like Nabi slipped at least once trying to run in from long-off, ended up getting nowhere near it
dragged down slightly, swatted to long-on
"Spirit need that one extra wicket here," chirps DaWolf. "Doesn't matter how strong the tail is if they never face a ball! Feel like Crane should be bowling his last over now."
length ball, Ackermann cuts and finds a gap, comes haring back for two
flighted legbreak, goes back and settles for a cut for one
tossed up and swept for one, Ackermann turns over the strike
Crane for his final set
"It was at this ground Brathwaite played that spectacular innings against New Zealand in the World Cup! Let's see if he can do a repeat….Carlos Brathwaite Remember The Name" It was, Naveed. Although WI lost the game...
