Evans has finished it off in style. He had mis-timed a few after playing pristinely, and finally nails one again. Booming swing of the bat and the ball flies over long-on, a long way over. Nerves? what nerves? Evans has taken Invincibles one step closer to qualification
Spirit vs Invincibles, 28th Match at London, Men's Hundred, Aug 14 2021 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Invincibles won by 2 wickets (with 5 balls remaining)
9.50 pm: Well that's that for the Hundred action today. Invincibles have shot up to second on the points table. We have just the final round of league games remaining and it's going to be mighty exciting. Till then, this is Saurabh Somani, signing off on behalf of Hemant, Chandan and Ranjith.
Laurie Evans: Nice to get running in the tournament. Lot of guys have been putting in performances, so it's nice to finally arrive. I suppose been playing this game a while and I take pride in finishing games off. (nerves?) Yeah! I missed out on a few full tosses, so I was glad to put that last one away. Home advantage is huge, I want to thank everyone for coming out. Great to see the tournament thriving as it should.
9.45 pm: Evans ends with 67 off 37, having played a blinder. Came in with wickets having fallen, and teed off with one brilliant shot after another. His stand with Will Jacks was brilliant, but he had to stay and take the team home when Jacks was out, and wickets kept falling. Didn't matter to Evans, who stuck to his game, and finished off the chase. Brilliant, brilliant hand.
Saqib is run out at the bowler's end trying to get Evans on strike. Full toss again, and he's going so hard at them he's losing shape and timing. This is to long-on and there's never a two there.
dug in short and he swivels to pull this with nonchalant force to deep square leg. Top drawer shot, but only a single for it.
now Mahmood on strike.
another low full toss outside off and he goes really hard at it, can't time it well, one bounce to long-off
low full toss outside off and he leathers it over extra cover, who's leaping up but can't get fingers to it. Sweeper does well to run to his left and dive to stop the ball but the bowler has over-stepped No-ball and free hit coming up.
nicely done, yorker on off, and he can only bottom-edge it back to the bowler
Spirit are hanging in there. 13 off 10 needed, and Evans is losing support at the other end.
moves well across to slog sweep and loses his stumps. Not the best choice of shot perhaps. He had moved so far across all three stumps were exposed, and once you do that, you have to lay bat on ball. He misses connecting and the ball homes in on the stumps.
short ball, latched on to that with a fierce pull and kept it down - but straight to short midwicket. Valuable dot ball
too full on the pads, flicked to deep square leg
yorker on off, Evans mis-read that and had to jam it back to the bowler's left
back of a length on the stumps, whips it off his thigh pad to fine leg
Still run a ball and Crane is bowled out now. Should Morgan have given him a 10 first up when he struck in his first five?
goes right back and clips it off his pads to midwicket
good length on leg stump, spinning across, he's hanging on the back foot and pushes at it with hard hands, but gets it past the bowler
pushes at this length ball outside off, half steers it to short third man
tossed up outside off, fuller length, Curran has a big swipe at it, manages to get enough to clear extra cover in the circle.
length ball outside off, turning away, slapped through cover
Run a ball now. 20 off 20. Crane is back.
amazing shot first up. Cullen was going for the yorker again, can't get it right, it's a leg-stump half volley and Curran calmly uses wrists to flick it forward of square for a boundary
Tom Curran is the new man.
yorked him. Inch perfect leg-stump yorker, Blake was making room to free his arms, can't do anything about that, and stumps are rearranged.
length on the pads, pushed to midwicket
inside edge goes for four and that's fifty for Evans. Bit of an anti-climactic shot to get there after the brilliant ones he's played all through. Full on off, went hard at it, got the inside edge that ran past the stumps, and very fine.
