8.55pm: That's your lot from us tonight, but don't worry, we're barely 12 hours away from some more Hundred action. Join us for four more games tomorrow, the London derbies at Lord's and the Roses match McCoys-Popchips tussle at Headingley. Until then, thanks for your company.

Abell is speaking to Sky Sports: "Our bowling group have been phenomenal right through the competition... tonight was a big night. Adapted pretty well and executed well under pressure. [Root run-out] It wasn't an easy wicket to bat on and find any fluency. We felt we could make it really tricky but it's Joe Root and the control through his innings was phenomenal. We needed a bit of magic from Clarkey and he delivered it. [Tactics at Trent Bridge with short boundary?] You have to take the dimensions into account, but also the surface. It can be easy to get carried away... the way those two handled that at the end was amazing. We squeezed in the field... [Rashid Khan's struggles?] How you play their high-class spinners is an integral part... Jonny played an unbelievable knock. We played him really well today. [Bairstow?] It feels like he's got the bit between he's teeth... he's been desperate to perform for us. He's been brilliant for us, huge player for us and hopefully continues this form. [Low-scoring games?] We'd love to be striking at 200 but that's been a key part of this competition, how you adapt... we've not quite found a way but tonight we've done that and that will give us a huge boost, a lot of belief."

Bairstow is the Meerkat Hero: "We've had a couple of close ones, it's that kind of competition... it's bringing out different qualities in different players. The way that Abes captained there and was brave at times when he needed to be was awesome. [Turning point?] In the field, if you can get two run-outs, it's always pretty handy. Two wickets that the bowlers don't have to get. The fielding was exemplary. We had a couple of losses but everyone stayed level. We spoke about enjoying the challenge... getting into a dogfight. [Personal performance?] Very happy, even better when you're on the right side of a win. I'm striking it like I strike it. We'll see what happens."

8.43pm: That was a real thriller but the Rockets have had a horrendous few days. On Wednesday night, they needed 10 off 10 balls and lost by 6 runs to the Phoenix. Tonight, they needed 9 off 7 and lost by 4 runs to the Fire. Bairstow's 55 set it up, but the Fire were excellent in the field and with the ball, brilliantly led by Hussey and Abell. Rauf and Payne both outstanding at the death. A penny for Hain's thoughts... 22 not out off 26 balls, no boundaries and involved in two run-outs. He looked absolutely gutted at the end there.

100
Haris Rauf to Wood, no run

slower ball, inside-edged into the pad as he looks to swing leg-side, and Rockets have thrown away another run chase! Rauf roars in celebration, jumping in the air. Hain can't believe it. He looks utterly dejected. All smiles for the Fire who have burgled two points!

Hain has missed his chance at redemption. Can Luke Wood bail him out? Longer boundary is on the leg side for the left-hander. 4 to tie. 5 to win...

99
1b
Haris Rauf to Hain, 1 bye

slips out as a high full toss... how high? Not high enough! Exactly the ball Hain would have wanted but the last one he was expecting... flies just over the top of leg stump as he shuffles across, looking to heave over midwicket. They sneak through for a bye...

6 off 2. It's all on Hain!

98
2
Haris Rauf to Hain, 2 runs

wide outside off stump, muscled out into the leg side with no timing... timed so badly that they can race back for the second!

8 off 3 is the requirement. Hain is yet to hit a boundary. He needs at least one now, and is facing Haris Rauf.

97
1
Haris Rauf to Wood, 1 run

stays leg-side of the length ball, nudges into the off side with an open face and jogs through to get Hain back on strike

9 from 4. Luke Wood. How are your nerves?!

96
W
Haris Rauf to Imad Wasim, OUT

Rauf goes full and straight with his slower ball, Imad shuffles across looking to scoop... and chips it straight to short fine leg! TKC takes a straightforward catch and Fire have taken three wickets in three balls!

Imad Wasim c Kohler-Cadmore b Haris Rauf 0 (1b 0x4 0x6 1m) SR: 0

Rauf. 9 off 5. Imad at No. 9. Pakistan vs Pakistan. Fire have missed the cut-off, so there are five fielders in the ring.

Memories of Wednesday's choke against the Phoenix will be fresh in the minds of every Rockets player.

Payne to Thompson, OUT

superb diving catch from Willey, running in off the long-on boundary! Length ball outside off stump, swung away down the ground... it hangs tantalisingly in the air as Willey races in, 10-15 yards off the rope, tumbles forward and slides underneath it!

Jordan Thompson c Willey b Payne 0 (1b 0x4 0x6 1m) SR: 0

Jordan Thompson walks out at No. 8. Hain at the wrong end... or is it the right one, given how he's hit the ball tonight?!

94
W
Payne to Gregory, OUT

looks to go again, but picks out Phillips at deep midwicket! He's exactly the fielder Welsh Fire would want underneath it, and he takes a fantastic catch diving forwards at near enough full stretch. Gregory's innings is nothing more than a cameo

Lewis Gregory c Phillips b Payne 8 (3b 0x4 1x6 3m) SR: 266.66
93
6
Payne to Gregory, SIX runs

muscled over midwicket, Gregory latches onto the slower ball! Angled across him, short of a length, Gregory walks across and powers it over the rope! Don't bother running...

92
2
Payne to Gregory, 2 runs

past the diving Bairstow! Angled across the right-hander, yet another slower ball. Gregory has a big old swipe and it strikes the outside edge. Bairstow flung himself to his right and got a glove on it, but couldn't cling on! TKC misfields at short third, and they come back for the second

91
1
Payne to Hain, 1 run

slower ball, back of a length, mistimed out to deep square leg on the bounce as he shuffles across to pull

Hain has 19 off 23 and has been involved in two run-outs... still yet to hit a boundary... 18 off the last 10 is the equation for the Rockets. Payne again, from the other end this time

slower ball, banged in halfway down the pitch, dragged away to deep square on the pull... oh no, another mix-up, and Rashid is the second man on Sam Hain's BBQ! There was a call of "yeah, yeah, yeah!" but who was it from? Rashid was racing back for the second, Hain sent him back, and the Rockets lose another... it's getting tight!

89
1
Payne to Rashid Khan, 1 run

looks to launch another cutter over square leg, but cue-ends it down to long-on for one

88
1lb
Payne to Hain, 1 leg bye

hit in front as he looks to swing into the leg side... Bairstow goes up but Abell decides against the review. Looked decent to the naked eye, maybe too high?

Payne has been excellent tonight... I reckon 80% slower balls so far.

87
Payne to Hain, no run

another slower ball, back of a length, punched back to the bowler on the bounce

87
1w
Payne to Hain, 1 wide

strays down the leg side with the slower ball as Hain gives himself room, but past the thigh pad

86
1
Payne to Rashid Khan, 1 run

skips down, takes a single to long-off as he lofts into-out

Hain has taken it very deep but is only striking at 89... he needs to see the Rockets home from this position.

DaWolf: "This innings continues a pattern in the hundred this season. Teams chasing batting slow or at the run rate, not attacking the total and then leaving themselves vulnerable to a late choke."

83

Wells to Rashid Khan, SIX runs

tossed up, Rashid's wristy flick flies over the diving TKC at long-off! Just a whip really, with a copter-style flourish... TKC jumps up but can't reach it

82
Wells to Rashid Khan, no run

flat legbreak, punched into the off side

Rashid is standing so far across his stumps that leg stump is exposed, looking to target the leg-side boundary

81
1
Wells to Hain, 1 run

wide outside off, chopped out to deep point on the cut

32 off 20... this is getting tight. This will be the final sighting of spin, with Wells to finish off.
