Perth Scorchers are the new WBBL champs, ladies and gentlemen! It's their maiden title too. And this has been a superb defence. The last ball is a full ball, almost yorker length, can only be squeezed as far as the cover region.
Scorchers vs Strikers, Final at Perth, WBBL, Nov 27 2021 - Match Result
Thanks for your company right through the competition. Do hang on for all the reactions, analysis and colour from Andrew McGlashan and Alex Malcolm. Hope to see you'll very soon! Take care and goodnight.
Strikers captain Tahlia McGrath: So proud of my team, got a close group, love each other's company. We'll be back bigger and better next year. They've had a great year, beaten us three times now. They thoroughly deserve the championship. Thanks to CA and everyone behind the scenes. Pretty cool playing in front of 15,000 fans."
Marizanne Kapp is the Player of the final "It was a terrible week for me, I was unwell, couldn't get out of bed. I don't think I deserve this, it's a team effort. Credit to the Strikers as well. [Odd] facing off my wife in the final. She knows me so well."
What a moment for Beth Mooney, Sophie Devine and the rest of the crew. This has been a victory well-deserved. They finished top of the league standings to qualify directly into the final, sat and watched the Strikers take the tough route, and on the big night, executed every plan clinically. What a game, what an occasion! Scorchers, who only lost three games all season, are deserving champs.
Mooney: "Know how it feels to be on the losing side. Been enjoying my cricket, to finish it off like that in front of a crowd like this is awesome."
Sophie Devine , who played much of her career with the Sixes, now has a title with the Scorchers.
Alana King: The girls have been unbelievable. The celebrations will kick on for as long as it can go. I'm no cult hero, I love my time in orange. This team means everything to me."
slips this full delivery way outside off once again, it only delays their victory celebration though
swing and a miss again!
toe-ends this wide of cover, that's a super delivery. The Scorchers are just about starting to celebrate
slips this too far wide outside off, wide called
Three sixes will see them home
struck on the pad as she tries to sweep this full delivery from outside off to deep square
top-edge over the keeper's outstretched hands for four! That will help
22 off 5
swing and a miss! Looked to wallop this length ball to the leg side
right into the blockhole, worked nicely into the deep backward square leg region
Can McPharlin belt a six to set up the final over?
heaved to deep square.
beaten as she tries to back away and cut, wasn't all that short for her to attempt that
lands between the infield and long-off fielder, two more into the kitty. This is gripping stuff
in the air and taken! Devine it is coming in from mid-off. No power from Wellington as she stepped out to loft this nice and clean but skewed it off the outer part of the bat.
clears the infield and the long-off fielder running back. Devine was 3/4th the way to the boundary
steps out and toe-ends this to long-on
hit hard to long-on
One boundary will do it nicely for the Strikers here
hammered down to long-on again, the boundary's quite long and you can finish two by just ambling across
squirted down to wide long-on, was looking to heave it towards deep midwicket originally
drifting into middle and leg, beaten on the sweep
reverse swept straight to short third
36 off 18
