Bangladesh: Hasibul plays havoc with Bagan

Hasibul Hossain returned with a four-wicket burst as holders Abahani bundled out Kalabagan Krira Chakra for a meagre 199 in their penultimate Janakantha Premier Division cricket league clash at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.

But his effort with the ball failed to inspire his team's batsmen as the Dhanmondi outfit were reeling at 45 for two off 12 overs when stumps were drawn.

Abahani skipper Akram Khan won the toss and invited Kalabagan to bat. The decision paid off as the first four batsmen departed for only 59 runs.

Right-arm medium-pacer Iqbal Hossain started the rot removing opener Sajid Hasan in the fourth over with the score on 3.

Hasibul struck in the next over to dismiss makeshift opener Ghulam Ali who came to bat in place of Harun-ur Rashid. The discarded Pakistani miscued an attempted hook and was caught by Saidul Islam at square leg with no addition to the score.

Masudur Rahman and Mushfiqur Rahman repaired the damage with a valuable 46-run third wicket partnership. Their stand was broken by Pakistan left-arm spinner Mohammad Hussain in the 15th over when Masud after scoring a brisk 22-ball 31, only managed to top edge the ball into the safe hands of Hasibul at mid off.

Mushfique was trapped leg before by off-spinner Saidul Islam in the 20th over leaving Kalabagan in dire straits at 59 for four.

However, a 49-run partnership between middle order Sajjad Ahmed and Mahbubur Rahman enabled Kalabagan to lunch at 104 for four in 37 overs.

Hasibul, the right-arm national team seamer struck in the sixth over after the interval having Mahbub caught behind with an outswinger.

Hasibul was on a hattrick after trapping dangerman Shahid Saeed of Pakistan leg, but wicketkeeper Zubayer Ishtiaque dug out his well-pitched yorker.

Sajjad Ahmed, the last recognised batsman, scored a sensible 68 with 32 made in boundaries to push Kalabagan towards respectability.

Hasibul's final analysis was 15-3-41-4.

In the other match of the day, promotees Orient Sporting Club scored a fighting 284 for seven against Brothers Union at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium.

Electing to bat, Orient's total was built around opener Mofizul's 55, and 52 by Asif Iqbal and Mridul. Besides, skipper Mizanur Rahman was unbeaten on 45.
