Tight Day in the Field
The Barbados Nation
It could be described as the tightest day of cricket for the
Courts/Suzuki Division 1 season.
At the end of it, after two sunny days of the sixth series, only
two teams had secured first innings points by the close
yesterday.
Leaders Police were shot out for 167, narrowly losing by ten
runs on first innings. But they struck back to take four wickets
as hosts BET stretched their lead to just 42.
The day's only century was a first for former national youth
team captain Shawn Graham of ICB Empire who declared at 243 for
4. That gave them a 110-run lead over United Insurance Carlton
who reduced the deficit by 44 without losing a wicket.
The two Caribbean Home Insurance schools sides are pushing
towards the lead over their opponents.
Just 19 more
Schools North, on 136 for four, need a further 19 runs to
overtake holders BNB St. Catherine, whose championship hopes
appear to be fading with every match.
Schools South still need to do some batting, as they require 137
with six wickets in hand to move ahead of BCL.
Cockspur Wanderers gave the day's most dour performance, batting
all day to score a mere 129, which they ended on 135 for six to
trail Sports and Games YMPC by 41 runs with four wickets in
hand.
The outstanding performance at Beckles Road came from policeman
Kenrick Marshall who took five for 24 from 23 overs as Wanderers
battled for 75 overs.
Another national youth captain Donovan Lopez made 71 not-out as
Mount Gay Maple eased within 25 runs of E.S.A. Field Pickwick's
237-7 declared - their overnight score.
