Gareth Batty has been added to England's one-day squad as a replacement for Ashley Giles who has not recovered from the hip injury which ruled him out of the Bangladesh Test series.
Batty, who played in both Tests against Bangladesh, is currently playing in Worcestershire's County Championship match against Somerset. He will continue in that game until the close of play on Thursday when he will leave to join the England squad in Southampton, as they prepare for Saturday's warm-up match against Hampshire. Worcestershire will be allowed to use a full-playing substitute once Batty leaves
Giles will continue to receive treatment at Warwickshire and it is thought that he will be available for domestic cricket within the next two weeks. He will be available to rejoin the England squad as soon as he has proved he is fully match fit.
Dr Peter Gregory, the ECB chief medical officer, said: "Ashley's injury is responding to treatment and we are pleased with the progress he is making. He will need to continue strengthening work and cricket-specific training at a local level. We have not yet specified a date for his return to competitive cricket, but at this stage we anticipate that he will be available to Warwickshire within the next two weeks and we will be monitoring his progress closely."
Batty has played six one-day internationals, after making is debut against Australia at Sydney in December 2002. His last ODI outing was against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo last December, although he was in the squad during the tour of South Africa but didn't play a match.
