After many delays and airport hard seats, the 1999 Red Stripe
squad arrived in St.Maarten.
Practice matches scheduled for Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 had to
be cancelled due to the fields being totally "covered" with
water.
Our friend indeed, I. McSood Amjad, had to rescue one early
arrival from the hotel, then house another six for their first
night.
The squad is now back at their designated hotel until Thursday
when they travel to Antigua for their first tournament game
against Barbados on Saturday. They then journey to Anguilla to
play Trinidad & Tobago on Monday 1st November and against the
Leewards on Tuesday November 2nd.
Meanwhile in their only practice game Canada defeated the St
Maarten national team by six wickets on a dicey rain affected
pitch!
St. Maarten batting first were dismissed for 88, with George
Codrington getting 4 wickets for 18 runs off 8 overs.
In their turn at the crease, Canada after a shaky start relied on
captain Joe Harris 45 not out and Muneeb (Sammy) Diwan
25 not out to reach their target for the loss of four (4)
wickets.
Keep tuned for other details as they are received.
