It has been a couple of action packed days since my last diary and we continue to embrace the diverse culture of India.
We played a warm-up match on a school ground with a bouncy wicket. Everyone was keen to get a game under their belts to help us get used to performing in Indian conditions.
Against India 'B', we batted first and the early overs showed that we can expect steep bounce on Indian wickets and the latter overs confirmed turn and low bounce which was exploited superbly by the Indian 'B' leg-spinner.
Our top order did a fantastic job with Haidee Tiffen and Suzie Bates both scoring half centuries. Our final fifty over total was 302, a little disappointing when at the 30-over mark we were looking at 350.
The true test would be backing this up with fifty overs or ten wickets, which ever would come first in the field. Louise Milliken set the tone with a few well directed and seriously quick bouncers and was unlucky in her first few overs not to have a wicket or two.
I had my first experience of fielding on the boundary in India. A group of men came and sat right behind me on the boundary shouting out my name and talking non-stop. I got an escape when I took over the gloves even if I felt a bit sorry for whoever took my place at third man.
We won the game comfortably dismissing the Indians for 140 and took a lot of positives as well as areas to improve from our first outing in India.
On the bus ride home, we stopped at a European supermarket and everyone went a bit crazy with slabs of cans of diet coke and a few treats.
Another outing that was memorable in the last few days was a trip to the movies to see 'Music and Lyrics' with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. Great chick flick made even more entertaining by the Indian crowds.
Firstly, the theatre was packed with about 300 people there. Twenty minutes into the film people were still filing in, talking loudly and the screen was still slightly out of focus.
The day was topped off with a Tuk Tuk taxi ride race there and home. You really do take your life into your own hands but the skill of the drivers to pick the tiniest gap is mind blowing. These races will definitely become a regular event on the trip.
Enjoying a day off now and preparing for game one of the quadrangular series. We play against our old rivals the Aussies tomorrow and are looking to kick start our campaign with a good win. Go the White Ferns!!
