Former Jamaica captain and West Indies limited-over representative Robert Haynes has been named coach of Jamaica's cricket team to the Commonwealth Games scheduled for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, September 11 to 21.
Haynes, a right-arm legspinner and hard-hitting left-handed batsmen at Kensington, recently returned from England where he obtained the national Cricket Association Advanced Coaching Certificate. George Sterling, second vice-president of the Jamaica Cricket Board of Control, was earlier appointed manager.
Cricket will be played in the Commonwealth Games for the first. Sixteen teams will be participating in the Games, with Jamaica, Zimbabwe, Malaysia and World Cup champions Sri Lanka drawn in one group.
