Pakistan's suspect batting caved in meekly yet again in the first innings in Galle, to concede a massive 372-run lead. Here are stats highlights from the third day's play, when 13 wickets fell for just 225 runs.
- Pakistan were bowled out in their first innings for 100. This is their second-lowest total against Sri Lanka after the 90 at the P Sara Oval in 2009. On the same tour in 2009, they were also bowled out for 117 in the first Test in Galle. It is also the third-lowest total for a team in Galle Tests. Zimbabwe (79) and England (81) have lower totals.
- This is the ninth time in Tests since 2000 that Pakistan have been dismissed for a total of 100 or lower. Only once have they been dismissed below 100 twice in a game (Sharjah 2002 against Australia). In the same period, no other team has been bowled out as many times for totals of 100 or lower.
- There have been 12 previous occasions when Sri Lanka have gained a bigger lead than they had at the end of Pakistan's first innings (372). In matches when Sri Lanka batted first, they have gained a bigger lead on only four occasions, including once in Galle. They have gone on to win two and draw two of those matches. - In Pakistan's first innings, the highest individual score was Younis Khan's 29. Seven batsmen were dismissed for scores below ten. On only three previous occasions have more Pakistan batsmen (8) been dismissed for sub-10 scores in an innings against Sri Lanka.
- The number of overs faced by Pakistan in their first innings (54.3) is the sixth-lowest for them against Sri Lanka (completed innings only). Their lowest is 36 overs at the P Sara Oval in 2009 when they were bowled out for 90. The run-rate in Pakistan's first innings (1.83) is the fourth-lowest for them in an innings lasting 50 or more overs (matches since 1990). The lowest for a completed innings in this period is 1.62 against Australia at the MCG in 1990.
- There have been only two previous occasions when there have been more lbw dismissals in a Pakistan innings in Tests against Sri Lanka. They came at Faislabad in 1992 and the P Sara Oval in 2009.
- Suraj Randiv's 4 for 13 is the best bowling performance by a Sri Lanka spinner against Pakistan in Galle. The number of overs bowled by Randiv (9.3) is the seventh-lowest for a Sri Lanka bowler who has picked up four or more wickets in an innings.
- Tillakaratne Dilshan, who scored a century in the first innings, went on to score a half-century in the second. It is the fourth time that Dilshan has scored a century and half-century in the same game. Among Sri Lanka batsmen, only Kumar Sangakkara has achieved the feat more often (five times). This is the first time Dilshan has achieved the feat against Pakistan and the second time in Galle.
