London: Accurate bowling from Ravindranah Rampaul and Steve Liburd restricted the Netherlands to a meagre 31 and paved the way for a nine-wicket victory by the West Indies in their opening match of the Costcutter Under-15 World Challenge yesterday.
Trinidadian Rampaul, the MVP in the regional Under-15 tournament earlier this year, captured seven for 11 from 8.3 overs, while Liburd took three for 17 off eight overs.
Remarkably, nine of the Netherlands' batsmen were bowled and the other leg before wicket in the 50-overs-a-side match at Eton College.
West Indies lost the wicket of Barbadian Renadlo Parris for five, but Lendl Simmons (13 not out) and Xavier Marshall (10 not out) ensured that the target was reached from just 7.2 overs.
West Indies oppose England in their second League 'A' match today before meeting India on Wednesday.
The top two teams in the group advance to the semifinals. The final will be at Lord's.
