tossed up at middle stump, brings the batswing down and slogs it over the midwicket boundary to square the series
Bangladesh vs Australia, 2nd Test at Chattogram, Sep 04 2017 - Match Result
5.00pm It's a real pity that this isn't a three-Test series. This has been an evenly-fought series with both sides not holding back. There's been plenty of needle, plenty of barbs, words and gestures. But all that is forgotten as both sides come together to shake hands. Hope you enjoyed our coverage as much as we enjoyed bringing it to you. I'll say goodbye on behalf of Varun Shetty. Cheers!
Darren Lehmann has a big smile on his face. Phew, finally I think he'd be relieved at not having to go to a press conference and offer "I have no explanation." Despite the win, Australia slip one place to No. 5 in the Test rankings. Bangladesh, at No. 9, are one point behind eighth-placed West Indies.
Bangladesh will look back at the mad morning session with plenty of regret. Sure, Australia had a big lead but there's still no justification for their approach. Came out playing million-dollar strokes when the need of the hour was solidity. But they'll learn. They could've so easily sat back and pushed fields back to delay the inevitable, but they came out, attacked and nipped out three Australia wickets. Wonder if Mehedi, who couldn't bowl because of an injured finger, could've made a difference. Also can't help but think what may have been had Bangladesh pushed forward to a lead of 150.
Razzak: "Have to say congratulations on a well-deserved victory by the Aussies, hope our country was as hospitable as possible to your lot (sorry for the incessant sledging, all in fun). Hope our boys learn from your lot on determination and off-cricket qualities. We have a lot of talented individuals who can't show that talent purely because of mental flaws. Thanks for giving us two good games to enjoy."
Nathan Lyon and David Warner have been named the Men of the series.
"I've taken a leaf out of Chris Rogers," says Warner. "It's taken about 15 Tests to work out my game. I hadn't had much success in these conditions, I had to overcome battles in my mind. We fought back hard, to come here and stick to my game plan and being patient paid off."
Nathan Lyon is the Man of the Match for his 13-154, his best in Tests. "Really good wickets to bowl on, especially for spinners," he says. "Special bowling performance by our group today. It was important to come up in these conditions and stand up. Bangladesh are a classy side, it was always going to be tough. The goal is to just win games for Australia.
Steven Smith: We played some good cricket, at times. To restrict them to what we did in the first innings was great. There wasn't a great deal in the surface for Lyon, but he was remarkable. Credit to Bangladesh, they made us fight throughout the series. For us, just those batting collapses have become a regular occurrence. That's something we have to rectify. It's nice to get the 1-1 draw.
Mushfiqur Rahim: Credit to Australia. The wicket was pretty good to bat on, we missed out in the first innings. That's what cost us. We should've got 350 at least. Win or lose, there are a lot of areas of improvements. Our batsmen made things tough for themselves, hopefully we'll learn.
Goes around the wicket
short and wide, slapped to the cover boundary off the back foot
full at off stump, driven to mid-off
good length, in at leg stump, flicked to deep midwicket
goes back to around the wicket
full outside leg stump, swats it to deep point with a reverse sweep
back of a length at leg stump, whipped to square leg
full at leg stump, defended into the leg side
good length at leg stump, defended to short leg
glorious shot. Shakib from over the wicket, tosses it up at middle stump. Handscomb down the track, makes room, reaches the pitch and creams it through extra cover
could've so easily gloved that reverse sweep to the keeper. Beaten. Turn and bounce from Taijul
he's picked the bones out of that. Sweeps in front of square from outside off. Tracer bullet stuff
drifts back in to cramp Maxwell for room as he looks to cut, rolls off a thick inside edge back to the bowler
tossed up on middle, Maxwell stretches forward and defends
slides back into middle and leg from around the stumps, worked to square leg
touch short on off, he rocks back and cuts this straight to cover
appeal for lbw, not sure why though. He smashed this off the bat as he attempted to cut. Mushfiqur reviews, just for the heck of it, I'd assume. He chopped this straight off the bat. They all had a laugh as they went upstairs.
stabs away an in-drifter wide of short leg
skips down the pitch and caresses this full delivery through extra cover. So good to watch. Too much flight from Shakib
lunges forward and smothers the spin of the delivery
driven wide of the cover fielder
