slower short ball outside off, pulled away to deep square and Mumbai enter their fifth IPL final
CSK vs MI, Qualifier 1 at Chennai, IPL, May 07 2019 - Match Result
MI won by 6 wickets (with 9 balls remaining)
11pm Mumbai 3, CSK 0 this IPL 2019. Chepauk may be a fortress for CSK against other IPL teams, certainly not against Mumbai. This is CSK's sixth successive loss at this venue to Mumbai, including a CLT20 match. Suryakumar pumps his fist and celebrates with Hardik Pandya.
The victory was set up by the bowlers who restricted CSK to 131 for 4. Rahul Chahar found massive turn and was backed up by Jayant and Krunal. Dhoni threatened to take CSK past 140, but Bumrah kept him quiet in the last over with his yorkers and full-tosses.
Mumbai lost Rohit early in their chase, but Suryakumar stepped up with an unbeaten 71 to usher them home.
That's all we have for you from this game. Goodbye and good night for now.
Dhoni: Somebody has to lose - the batting (what went wrong?) Rather than going over the wicket, we have to now go round the wicket (on what CSK need to do after losing qualifier 1) You need to know the pitch at home - whether it's tacky. That is something we didn't do well. The batting needs to do slightly better. The top order has been on and off. They're the best we've got. You have to bank on experience. They have to use that experience slightly more. Hopefully, we crack the code next game. Unfortunately, few catches dropped. But I feel we could have bowled better. You have to bowl slightly away from the batsmen here. Once you don't have enough runs, every boundary hurts you. After a good start with the ball, we kept giving boundaries. The good thing is you have another crack after a top-two finish.
Kishan: Surya was in good touch and I was just looking to rotate the strike. Jaddu bhai was bowling very well. We have good batsmen at the back end - Hardik, Pollard - and we just wanted to be positive. It's not a home ground and the pitch was turning a lot, so it wasn't easy. Me and Surya are used to these pitches in domestic matches. Actually, we wanted to be positive against Tahir and not see him off. Good feeling to go to the final with a couple of days to rest.
Rohit: It was a great effort and it's a great feeling to be knowing we will be in the final. Three good days to switch off - it's a much-need break for us. I knew we had the bowlers to restrict them and I had the confidence in the batters. It's important to restrict them to as low as possible, given the spin bowlers they have. Jayant was a call we had to make as they have quite a bit of right-handers. I thought a fingerspinner would have been more useful on this pitch than a wristspinner. MS was going to be crucial at the end too. We had plans and we were very clear. When you restrict a team like that to less than 140 plans have to fall in place. Suryakumar is one of our best batsmen against spin. We knew the spin threat will be a huge factor and I've seen Surya playing in close quarters in Mumbai and Mumbai Indians. You saw the shots behind the wicket on this spinning pitch. This was the perfect pitch for him. We have a balanced squad to beat CSK at home. When you come to a place like Chennai you need to know what you have to execute
Suryakumar, Man of the Match: It was important from one of the top-three to bat till the end. It was a big game and it needed a bigger performance. After the first innings, I saw what happened. I just wanted to play down the ground and focus on singles and doubles.

full-toss outside off, shovelled away with the wrists to the right of long-on. Faf runs across to his right and swats it away towards deep midwicket
full on off, punched down to long-on
Sri: "Watson HAD to take that catch. Also vijay early on in the innings"
Time for a time-out. Mumbai on the brink of making the final
