my goodness! He's trying to hit each of them further...full and straight, swung over deep square leg. What a way to win it
Renegades vs Stars, 30th Match at Melbourne, BBL, Jan 10 2020 - Match Result
Stars won by 7 wickets (with 8 balls remaining)
Glenn Maxwell has broken the record for playing the most T20s (58) for MS, going past Luke Wright
Glenn Maxwell and Nick Larkin's 115-run partnership is MS's highest for the 4th wicket in T20s, breaking the record of 80 between David Hussey and George Bailey
Melbourne Stars won by seven wickets and a game that looked like it would be close has been won with eight balls left. An astonishing display from Glenn Maxwell who has taken his T20 game to a new level in the last few weeks. The required rate went above 11, but Maxwell knew exactly what he was doing. Remember, though, that the win was set up by how the Stars finished with the ball. The Renegades could only make 22 from their last four overs. They are now eight losses from eight matches this season and all-but gone.
Liam: "Most mature knock Maxi has ever played?" Well, he's in some incredible form at the moment and is so calumniating at the crease. It's great to see (unless you are the opposition). "It was about keeping it around 10-an-over. If I had some good overs I felt we could make it up," Maxwell says. "A bit of harmless banter [with Christian]."
I'll wrap things up there for tonight. The Melbourne Stars are looking very good this year. We'll see them again on Sunday, but we'll be back tomorrow for the double header of Sydney Thunder v Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers v Brisbane Heat. Until then, it's goodbye and thanks for joining us.
a very short ball, called wide
full and straight, crunched back past the bowler...they hustle back, Larkin has to get a move on. Probably needed the direct hit
look out in the crowd! Full delivery outside off, Maxwell swings through the line and sends it 91 metres over long-off
a slower ball, lobbed to the on side
15 off 12 balls. Should be the game for the Stars now
Connor Coco: "Maxi has become a much better player. A few years ago he tried to hit every ball for six and he used to get out a lot. Now he tries to rotate strike a lot more and he ends up scoring quickly and scores more consistently as well."
a straight full toss, bunted down to long-on to bring up the hundred stand
low full toss outside off, driven to mid-off
Rudy: "Maxwell is the difference between the teams, and my BBL fantasy lol"
a whip-pull from outside off, finds deep midwicket this time
good yorker at leg stump, but Maxwell makes two out of it as he jabs into midwicket
Maxwell wanted the no-ball as well. He had a point
big, bigger, biggest! Huge full toss and Maxwell sends it into, almost, the third tier over deep square leg. That's a monstrous blow
and another! He's peppering the boundary now, does brilliantly well to pick up this full delivery from outside off over deep square
In the last two overs the probability of winning has jumped from 29 to 48
this time he sends it square through point, there's a fumble on the rope by Harris
leans back and cuts but finds point, to his frustration
full at leg stump, whipped to long-on
plays back to a shorter, straight, delivery, pushed down the ground and the weighting on the shot is perfect
flatter and wider outside off, driven through point to take Maxwell to a 34-ball fifty. Outstanding, again
MASSIVE, over deep midwicket! Goes down on his back knee and nails a huge slog sweep
Boyce gets the ball
full and straight, Maxwell shuffling around, worked to deep midwicket
well bowled, gets the yorker in at the stumps, played with an angled face to backward point
slashes and misses at a length ball outside off
