Scorecard
India ended the third day of the first Under-19 Test at Canterbury in control despite a battling rearguard from England. At the close, England led by only 23 runs with five second-innings wickets remaining.
India resumed on 386 for 8, and Karan Singh and Yo Mahesh extended their ninth-wicket stand to 61 before Mark Nelson removed them both in the same over to end the resistance.
Faced with a deficit of 195, England lost Billy Godleman early on, but Varun Chopra and Rory Hamilton-Brown steadied the ship in adding 106 for the second wicket. Spinners again shouldered the bulk of the workload, and Sumit Sharma nipped out Hamilton-Brown and then Shahbaz Nadeem struck twice - ending Chopra's three-and-a-half hour vigil - to leave England wobbling on 151 for 4.
Adam Lyth and Adil Rashid had almost erased the deficit when Singh removed Rashid, and while England reached the close without any further alarms, it will take something remarkable to deny India on the final day.
