going down the leg side, Moeen moves early and calmly, stepping back and steering the ball for six to finish the match! He just helped it on its way over the fence at fine leg and that wins the game!
Originals vs Phoenix, 32nd Match at Birmingham, Men's Hundred, Aug 15 2024 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Phoenix won by 9 wickets (with 8 balls remaining)
9.35pm Phoenix are through to the Eliminator against Southern Brave! They reach 42 runs for the loss of just one wicket with eight balls to spare in this rain-hit match reduced to a maximum of 30 balls per side! The Edgbaston crowd - all 11,625 of them - are rewarded for sticking it out in some awful weather. Phoenix finish second on the table and the winner of their clash with Brave will face Oval Invincibles in the final. Meanwhile, Northern Superchargers, who were sweating on an Originals victory to hold a place in the top three, are out of it.
"A bit of weather around so to come out of a shortened game with a win and a place in the Eliminator is very good for us," says Match Hero Adam Milne, who took two of Originals' five wickets to fall in their 41-run total, as the rain falls even heavier now.
Vishal Poojary: "Great to see the players from both teams and the match officials ensuring there was a result this game. Just what the fans need!"
Thanks for staying with us. We look forward to bringing you all the action from Saturday's Eliminators - it'll be Invincibles vs Spirit in the women's before the Phoenix-Brave men's clash. See you then!
Moeen Ali makes a bat change
slightly full on off and dabbed away towards backward point
Currie returns with Phoenix needing seven from 10
length ball on off stump and worked away to the off side
slightly full just outide off and moving away as he swings and misses
Moeen Ali strides to the crease...
back of a length outside off and skied to deep cover where Sikander Raza takes a simple catch! He didn't latch onto that as he'd have liked and is gone as a result
worked away to the leg side and they'll take one
pace off, outside off "oh!" uttered by Duckett who thinks it's pretty wide but not signalled
Here's Scott Currie
full toss outside off and punished to the boundary, whack! Right through mid-off for four more! An expensive set of five
angling away well outside off as the keeper gathers
full outside off carved away through cover, it beats a diving Tom Hartley in the deep and skips off the greasy surface to the boundary!
More rain falling
clipped very fine through fine leg and it races to the rope
just back of a length ball on middle and angling across the left-hander, and he goes to the short boundary, at square leg, over the rope in front of the Hollies!
Tom Aspinwall enters the attack...
fullish on middle and it dribbles off the pad to the off side
worked towards the deep extra cover, who gathers
Powerplay done with 28 needed from 22
just back of a length, outside off, lobbed up over the bowlers head and it plugs in the ground just behind the umpire
length ball on off and moving away slightly, through to the keeper as Duckett prods
just outside off and jabbed in front of point
Farooqi continues...
just back of a length, doesn't time it well as he swings and the ball plops just in front of midwicket. They need to hurry, but safe
fuller, slower outside of a swing and a miss
length ball on middle over deep midwicket, bigger this time into the middle tier for six more! What did I say about finding out soon enough what Phoenix have got?
back of a length, on middle, and lumbered over deep midwicket into the stands for six! Maybe not the cleanest contact but very effective
full on off stump, slower ball, a swing and a miss
9.12pm Okey dokey, what have you got Phoenix? Won't be long before we find out. Manchester Originals will be hoping to emulate Liam Livingstone's strong catching in greasy conditions - he took three for Phoenix - as more rain falls. Fazalhaq Farooqi to open the bowling as Jamie Smith opens with Ben Duckett as the rain gets heavier...
