yorker! Nailed it! Hacked out of the full length, his foot is behind the line, Green can only cloth his drive to mid-on! Brave win a thriller and Fire are extinguished for another year!
Brave vs Fire, 32nd Match at Southampton, Men's Hundred, Aug 28 2025 - Ball by Ball Commentary
9.26pm So, that wraps up the group stages. We have a day off tomorrow, then it's all about the Eliminators at the Kia Oval on Saturday. Northern Superchargers versus Trent Rockets in the men's competition; London Spirit versus Northern Superchargers in the women's. Oval Invincibles and Southern Brave respectively await in the final at Lord's on Sunday. We'll see you soon for all that!
9.21pm Well, that was fun! When Craig Overton was creating catches in the covers for fun, this looked deeply one-sided. But Tom Kohler-Cadmore outmatched Jason Roy's super knock with a hard-hitting 84 from 46, in partnership with Ben Kellaway. But in the end, Jordan Thompson and Tymal Mills closed it out in style, with Thompson's yorkers simply superb.
Fire duly finish at the foot of the table once again, in men's and women's competitions. Brave end a misfiring campaign with a morale-boosting win, and a fourth-place finish.
Craig Overton is the Meerkat Match Hero: "Great to get over the line. We've been bit-part in this comp, not quite whole performances. It was doing the basics as simple as possible, up top it swung a bit, then slower balls to the longer side. Nail your skill. The fans are awesome here, turn out in numbers, nice to repay the faith."
Green, relatively the set batter, is on strike... he is known for boshing a long ball ...
wide slower yorker, patted out to cover and Zaib rushes the single.... six or bust it is!
RIght, a brains-trust meeting for Brave... plenty at stake here despite the qualification race being done
A tremendous knock, but Fire need an instant impact from Saif Zaib now
pace off, dragged on! What a response from Thompson! He was making a mess of it in those first few balls, but out comes the back-of-the-hander, perfect length, outside off, demanding aggression from TKC, but his flatfooted swing demolishes his own stumps!
full toss, honked over the ropes at long-off! Thompson loses his length for a split-second and gets punished! A mighty thrash over the boundary!
free hit... length ball, pace off, no yorker this time, cuffed away to deep midwicket, and it's two more to the total. Four off one ball effectively
fires in the inevitable yorker, pace on, cracked out to cover ... but he's overstepped! Oh my...
So... it's going to be a diet of yorkers.... How does Green combat that? Short third and short backward square in place
opens the face again, slammed out to deep cover on the full length. Mills gives Thompson 18 to defend, the wooden spoon is winking at Fire here...
Three a ball it is
dot ball! That's a huge ball from Mills, holding his line and length across the big-swinging right-hander. Air-shot as TKC swings himself almost off his feet
fuller length, draws the long-levered drive with an open stance, Evans slides round to limit the damage as the rate climbs towards three a ball
pace off on the short ball, spliced pull lands safe! The square leg umpire takes evasive action... just another single
attempted ramp on the full length, gets in a bit of a tangle, the bowler fires it into his limbs, and it's just a deflected single
Back comes Mills... what can he leave his team-mate?
goes for the yorker again, nails it again! Nerveless death bowling. Clubbed out of the length to long-on... 23 left to defend in ten
One big ball here and it's advantage Brave again...
goes for it again, a slower yorker this time, that's wonderful variation, looping into the blockhole and hacked to the leg side
Thompson's diet of yorkers is working well here...
right into the toes, well bowled again, but another two with long-on set deep
pace off, lobbed to the leg side! Cries of anguish as Roy slides in at mid-on, and does well to get his body behind it as the ball plugs in front of him
attempted yorker, thrashed back through the line, intercepted in the followthrough. Another dot...
Back comes Thompson
hits the pitch hard, as TKC backs away and can't make contact... a priceless dot to keep the rate around two a ball
looks for the ramp, gets enough on it! Inside-out stance, doesn't get as much on it as he'd hoped, but the ball pitched and gathered pace away to the rope, past the keeper!
full length, on the pads, to the on-side
on the back foot, chopped away to deep third
hoisted across the line to deep midwicket
Right, the spin gamble was a qualified success in the end. Back to seam to close out the contest... a lot on TKC now, you suspect
