swings into the leg side, out to deep midwicket
Australia vs West Indies, 1st T20I at Hobart, AUS v WI, Feb 09 2024 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Australia win by 11 runs in a good game of T20 cricket with plenty of runs. West Indies just left a little too much to do at the end. Zampa was the difference with the ball. Pooran, Russell and Rutherford didn't fire which was costly. The home side had been set up by David Warner's rollicking half-century and their innings was finished off by Tim David's power. These are two very good T20 sides.
Rahul: "Zampa was really the difference b/w the two sides. On such a track even 3/40 would've been great but those 15 runs were the difference b/w both these teams."
"Almost the perfect game," says Zampa. "Might have left a few out there. They are a dangerous team, a lot of power, the ability to keep taking wickets was important."
David Warner is player of the match: "Just pleasing to get the win. You saw it was a nice wicket and have to make the most of those ones. I feel refreshed, a lot of energy, the guys have told me to calm down a bit. I've said I want to play the World Cup and finish there."
Rovman Powell "Just in the middle we struggled to get partnership, but it was still a good game of cricket. We've just got to back ourselves a little bit more, whenever we raise our bat tonight we find a fielder. Think the guys did well, just the middle overs we kind of lost it a little. It's a little bit too cold for us, but the crowd was good and a good atmosphere."
Matthew Wade (subbing in for Mitch Marsh) "I think he's okay. We respect them [West Indies] a lot, they are a great T20 team. We knew it wasn't going to be an easy win. We felt 200 was par so just had enough on the board. The luxury we have is the seven batters in the team. Nice to see Tim come in and smack it around. [Zampa] He's class, you can just bank on his four overs."
I'm going to wrap things up there for tonight. Australia face South Africa in the deciding women's ODI tomorrow and we'll have coverage of that, then be back for the second game of this series on Sunday. For now, from Gnasher and Alex, it's goodnight.
full outside off, steps across a crunches a drive, Abbott gets a boot on it
gets the yorker in outside off, misfield at backward point, beaten by the spin, I think, but Holder loses the strike with a three

half volley outside off and he creams a cover drive wide of long off
good comeback, full outside off, can only get an inside edge into the boot. Hint of late swing back
low full toss, and it's all the way over deep midwicket!. Don't go away yet, folks
27 needed off 6. Australia also need an extra fielder inside the ring due to their over rate
through him, 139ph, full and spearing past off stump. Hazlewood closed that out very well
terrific yorker, that's a superb delivery, can only angle it into the off side. Top class from Hazlewood
shuffles across the stumps and attempts scoop, somehow gets it out to deep backward square and make the second
well, it's four! Crunches a pull shot through midwicket, struck that very nicely
Holder needs to find at least two sixes in these four balls
gets the wide yorker on target this time, driven to deep point
Suyog: "Hold on MoM predictions. It may just be Holder with 12 more balls to go"
and now a wide, sprayed well outside off as he goes for the wide yorker
good shot! Back of a length outside off, driven straight down the ground. Nicely done from the No. 10
Hazlewood for his last
all the way! Gets under a full one, in the slot, and it has the legs to clear deep midwicket. Well, are they still in it?
a crisp swing through the line, gets it straight of long on. Sweetly struck
full toss on the stumps, worked to deep square leg
low full toss outside, skewed off the toe end to the edge of the ring at cover. Not sure Marsh picked that up
a yorker at off stump, opens the face down to third
round the wicket, full toss outside off, drives and misses
Kiran: "Who will be motm? Warner or Zampa? I can see an argument for either. I'd probably edge it to Warner." I'd probably go Zampa. Good batting conditions. But, yes, tight call
drives past cover, wide of long off but they only end up with a single
