Sri Lankan master blaster Sanath Jayasuriya continues to take a
commanding lead in the latest CEAT International cricketer of
the year standings issued after his team's three-Test series
against India. Jayasuriya has gained a total of 99 points and is
just one point short of his ever increasing collection of
centuries.
Following Jayasuriya in the second place is his vice captain
Aravinda de Silva with 62 points. Indian Saurav Ganguly who was
adjudged the man of the series in their home Tests against Sri
Lanka, has climbed up to third place with 58 points. These
rankings to the local media were released by R.S.Hartley &
Company.
In the fourth spot of the CEAT International cricketer of the
year ratings is Pakistan off spinner Saqlin Mushtaq (55 points)
who too had a productive season in the three-Test home series
against the West Indies where Pakistan had a 3-0 whitewash with
Mushtaq bagging nine wickets in the final Test in Karachi.
Former Indian captain Mohammed Azharuddin is placed fifth (48
points), followed by Glen McGrath (46 - Australia), Muttiah
Muralitharan (46 - Sri Lanka), Sachin tendulkar (45 - India),
Shane Warne (43 - Australia) and Ijaz Ahmed (38 - Pakistan).
Tendulkar has gone down to the eighth place from his original
No.3 spot after a dismal show with the bat before regaining his
form with a fluent century in the last Test against Sri Lanka.
