Damien Martyn is in line for a recall to Australia's one-day team, as the three-match series against Bangladesh gets underway in Cairns this weekend.
Martyn has been out of action for four months, since breaking a finger during the World Cup. Although he overcame the injury to score a matchwinning 88 not out in the final against India, he was forced to withdraw from Australia's subsequent tour of the Caribbean, and missed this month's historic first Test in his home town of Darwin.
"It's been a long slow process of rehab and waiting for the joint to mend," said Martyn, whose finger had to be pinned after x-rays revealed five small fractures. "I'll never have full movement in it and in old age it'll be a bit arthritic. But at the moment I can catch and throw and bat without pain - that's the main thing for me at the moment, that I can hold a bat and play.
"In that sense the finger's good now, I'm just rusty cricket-wise," added Martyn. "It was sad missing the Test match in Darwin, I hate missing Test matches but you have to take the expertise and act on that. I've just got to focus on getting picked this weekend and whatever happens down the track is what happens."
Martyn will not find it easy to regain his place. Darren Lehmann scored two centuries in the Tests against Bangladesh, while Martin Love also staked his claim with a century.
