Moxon aims for early success at Durham

Martyn Moxon was today officially unveiled as Durham's new coach.

The former Yorkshire and England batsman, who played for the county for 17 years before becoming coach for three years, has joined Durham on a three-year contract.

Moxon officially starts on February 1 but will meet up with the England one-day side for their trip to Sri Lanka the following month to fulfil his duties as assistant coach.

"I'm delighted to be joining Durham and I am looking forward to the challenge ahead," he said. "I am hoping for great success in the very near future."

Chairman Bill Midgley believes Moxon is the man to take Durham back to the top flight. He said: "This is a crucial appointment for Durham County Cricket Club, perhaps one of the most important we have made as it will have a huge impact on our cricket performance over the next few years."

A series of back injuries forced Moxon, 40, to retire after ten Test matches. He scored 26,280 runs in all competitions.
