handsome way to finish! Plays a cracking lofted drive over the covers to seal it for Sixers
Hurricanes vs Sixers, 5th Match at Launceston, BBL 2023, Dec 11 2023 - Match Result
Sixers won by 6 wickets (with 4 balls remaining)
Ben McDermott has broken the record for playing the most T20s (83) for HH, going past D'Arcy Short
Sydney Sixers win by six wickets and are two from two early in the tournament. They always had this chase under control. Daniel Hughes played the perfect innings for the situation on what was a tricky surface where back-of-a-length seam was hard to get away. Probably not an ideal T20 surface, but at least we got a game tonight! Sixers are looking very good again, they have a lot depth and seem to have most bases covered. Will take a little longer to judge Hurricanes this season and how things come together. Would appear they have lost Riley Meredith for a while with another side injury. Their batting didn't adjust their sights well enough tonight. Daniel Hughes is named Player of the Match. On that note, I'll wrap things up for tonight. Will be back tomorrow for Sydney Thunder vs Brisbane Heat from Canberra. Until then, thanks for your company.
full and speared into the pads, bounces out into the off side
The field is up
that just about does it! Dropped in short, Hughes picks it up with a mighty pull and sends it miles back over fine leg. He gave it a little fist bump after that
full and wide, chases and misses the drive...was there a noise? No one seemed interested
a short ball, rolls his wrists on the pull, places it nicely between long leg and deep square. Useful brace
flashes and misses outside off, back of a length and zips through
short of a length and straight, a stylish pull to get off the pads
short of a length, swipes across the line, it's a big top edge and Wade settles under it. Is there a twist?
That over should have sealed it for Sixers. Under a run-a-ball now
and now Hughes goes high into the leg side, a flick shot off the stumps, lands in front of deep square
low full toss this time, driven to midwicket on the edge of the ring
just clears deep midwicket! Full and straight from Jordan, Silk swings it over the leg side. Kept the fielder interested but has the legs
drives, edges, given! Silk has called the review straightaway. Has he hit the ground? Very full outside off, he drives over it. And it's a flatline on Ultraedge
full outside off, bunts it straight down the ground
Appears to be a pitch invader delaying play. Doubt that person will be getting back into a cricket ground anytime soon
back of a length, a cutter, Silk pulls it one handed over mid-on, that eases the pressure
Will be Jordan
short and pulled to deep midwicket. A good surge over from Ellis
back of a length outside off, driven to deep cover to bring up a 45-ball fifty. Excellent bounce back from his Shield struggles
keeps it full wide, Hughes plays at it and is beaten. Another dot
very full and wide, left alone...gets away with the call
full outside leg, takes the pad and Wade dives across...looks like some bat involved as well
gives himself a touch of room outside leg, swings a full delivery to deep midwicket
Power surge has been called. Ellis to bowl
