Sri Lanka opener Ian Daniels holds the key to his side's hopes of victory in
the third Under-19 Test against England at Worcester after 18 wickets fell
on the second day.
At the close, Daniels was unbeaten on 24 with Sri Lanka on 57 for five,
having been set 109 to win. They had initially collapsed to 26 for five,
with two wickets each for Surrey seamer Tim Murtagh and Hampshire
all-rounder Chris Tremlett. In addition, they lost Kaushal Lokuarachchi to a
crazy run-out when he got into a mix-up with Daniels.
Nimesh Perera went in the first over of the innings but the crucial
dismissal for England was that of Jehan Mubarak, whose 49 in the first
innings is the top score in the match. He was leg before to Murtagh for just
four.
Sri Lanka began the day on 124 for seven and Essex left-armer Justin Bishop
took the last three wickets to fall to finish with figures of seven for 42.
England began their second innings 46 behind and although they lost both
openers before they had got themselves into credit, they looked good at 73
for two.
But they lost skipper Ian Bell and Nicky Peng in quick succesion and soon
collapsed to 104 for seven when Mark Wallace was caught behind. Murtagh
struck the ball well for 32 valuable runs and Sri Lanka seamer Akalanka
Ganegama completed a ten-wicket haul for the match in England's total of 154
all out.
