A labour of love

Don Bradman surely has to be the most written-about cricketer ever - indeed, few sportsmen can have been the subject of so many books

Don Bradman surely has to be the most written-about cricketer ever - indeed, few sportsmen can have been the subject of so many books.
His life has been dissected down to the finest detail and it would be easy to think that there is little left to warrant a new publication. But this is different from the usual fodder.
Beautifully produced, this is packed with superb pencil and charcoal drawings, paintings and working drawings by Brian Clinton, who has captured almost ever aspect of Bradman's life in remarkable detail and accuracy. That description also applies to the narrative, written by Richard Mulvaney who is director of the Bradman Museum at Bowral.
The project was also done with the blessing and co-operation of Bradman himself, and so impressed was he with Clinton's work that he signed every picture. It is not hard to see why.
This is essentially an upmarket coffee-table book and the price tag might put some off. But it shouldn't. This book, which cuts no corners in quality, is well worth every penny.
