Ian Chappell takes the opening honours in the Star Wars league on day one of the World Twenty20, and it looks like we've embarked on a familiar battle between him and Sambit Bal for the No. 1 spot. Sambit is at No. 2, just 94 points behind Ian.
England may have suffered a shock defeat to Netherlands in the opening game, but the three England players in Ian's team delivered for him. Ian had Ravi Bopara as trump (112), half-centurion Luke Wright (96), and James Anderson (90), who fetched him a total of 298 points. Sambit too had Bopara as trump and Ryan ten Doeschate from Netherlands, who gave him 82, but his other England pick - Ryan Sidebottom - managed just 10 points.
David Lloyd (at No. 3) and Sanjay Manjrekar (at No. 4) both had trumps who did not play - Graeme Swann and Dmitri Mascarenhas respectively. Stuart Broad and Owais Shah fetched Lloyd 75, while Manjrekar got only 35 from Shah.
With three games slated for today - provided the rain holds off - expect lots more action in the points table tomorrow.
