Former Board officials not banned for life

An article featured on CricInfo last Wednesday night has been found out to be misleading. The article titled, "Sri Lankan former board officials banned for life, " stated that District Judge Salam of the District Court, Colombo, banned the officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka (BCCSL) from holding posts in the Board for life.

In fact Colombo District Judge K.T. Chithrasiri dismissed a motion filed by Thilanga Sumathipala and other members of last years BCCSL. The motion had sought clarification and had sort to rectify the error, and limit the operation, of an interim junction granted in respect of the election held on March 2, 1999. Clarification was also sought to the holding of office by the defendant for the year 1999/2000 since last years order prohibited them holding BCCSL posts in perpetuity.

Mr Thilanga Sumipthapala's motion was dismissed. The issue of a permanent injunction cannot arise until the completion of ongoing court action.
